President Bashar al-Assad met on Saturday with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the presence of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Talks discussed the deep strategic relations between the two countries, with the two sides expressing relief over the model cooperation relations.

President al-Assad and Ayatollah Khamenei affirmed that the course of events in the Middle East proved the correctness of the Syrian-Iranian viewpoint which managed to avert the external dangers that threatened the region's peoples.

Talks also dealt with the latest regional and international developments, with the two sides affirming mutual commitment to continuing the standing decades-long consultation and coordination between the two countries and finding suitable solutions to the key issues in the region in a manner that agrees with its peoples' interests
