Damascene Sword Tells Immunity, Heritage of Damascus

The city of Damascus was famous for the industry of a sword called the "Damascene Sword" which was of a high quality. The material from which the sword was made was called "mythical" because no one knew the secret of it despite the attempts of Europeans to discover it.
Several stories were narrated about the Damascene Sword. One story says the Damascene sword could cut steel materials, while other stories say a piece of silk was cut as it fell on its edge.
History Professor, Fayssal al-Abdullah, said that the industry of the Damascene Sword dates back to the 8th century and that the mythical reputation of the damascene sword was crystallized during the crusaders campaigns when the Europeans found themselves in front of soldiers who were defending their homeland with much more advanced and stronger swords than the ones they have.
A monument of the sword is erected at the Umayyad Square that signifies the strength and immunity of the city and tells about the victories and achievements of the battles the people in the region were engaged in
